Leah Vivian Harley White was born at 5:58am on 1st March 2011 at 26 weeks and 6 days gestation (3 months premature) weighing it at 920 grams (2lb and Half an ounce). She was also born with a cleft lip and palate. I have decided to do this after reading another parents blog on there everyday life over 6 months in the NICU in Poole Maternity Hospital. I wanted to keep this blog firstly as a diary of events that happen for ourselves, Family and friends that are interested, and also to maybe help some new parents with pre term babies understand what might be happening during there stay at NICU as willow and stanley parents blog helped me a lot come to terms and understand just what the hell was happening to me and my family.

Myself and my Fiance Sarah have been together for 13 years, we were trying for a baby for 14 months. The day we found out she was pregnant was a day of joy that we will both never forget. Everything was going really well with the pregnancy. We attended the 20 week scan both really excited to find out if we were gonna be having a girl or a boy.
The scan begun and after a few minutes i had a gut instinct that something wasnt quite right, it turns out i was right, The sonographer told us that our baby GIRL was going to be born with a cleft lip and possibly a cleft palate aswell. As you can imagine this came as a complete shock to both of us mainly because we knew so little about it. We were put in a room around the corner where we were told someone would come and explain exactly what would is happening. We were in this room for what felt like 4 hours, turns out it was only 10 minutes or so, we had both made the phonecalls to our parents to let them know they would be having a little grand daughter and also the little information we knew at that point about the cleft. By this time we were greeted by a lady who sat us both down and explained what would happen.
The next day we were sent to Poole Maternity to see a specialist sonographer who would have a better look in more detail and give us some information on how things were developing, we were given more information about clefts, websites to look at etc and told our details would be passed on to the Spires team in Salisbury who would be dealing with our daughters 18 years of care for her lip and palate.
To make this bit brief the Spires team have so far been brilliant with there support and due to the circumstances you will read about that bit has been waylaid somewhat while we sort out some other issues.
